The Institute of Social Prevention and Resocialisation (IPSiR) was established in 1971 as an interdisciplinary scientific and research unit of Warsaw University.

In 1990 it was included in the newly established Faculty of Prevention, Resocialisation and Social Problems. It’s current name is Faculty of Applied Social Sciences and Resocialisation.

The academic staff of IPSiR consists of 50 members including 7 full professors, 9 associate professors, and 25 PhD holders.

In addition to their academic achievement, IPSiR academic staff has a significant research and expert output. The Institute co-operates with many national and foreign academic research centres as well as with national agencies of criminal justice industry (police, prisons and reformatories, criminal courts, probation officers) and agencies of social assistance.

The Institute educates nearly 1000 students at a variety of studies: full-time, extramural, graduate MA and post-graduate. The curriculum includes traditional lectures and classes as well as seminars, specialist workshops and students’ practice.


In 2002, on a motion of the University Accreditation Commission, the Institute was awarded the Certificate of Quality Education in the area of studies “Politology” by the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities (Accreditation approved by the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities on 28th June 2002).
